Welcome to Pool Reflections!
The goal of Pool Reflections by Zac Monsees is to provide as much up to the minute information on the relevant topics concerning water polo news, tactical information, fundamentals and create a forum that will assist administrators, coaches, players and refs build discussions around making the sport more accessible.
Growing the sport and competing at the highest levels are the two ends of the barbell that I hope to play my small part in continuing to improve.
I’ve been around the game my entire life. My father, Mike Monsees, was an All-American player at SJSU in the early 70’s, then a coach at SJSU, then the Varsity water polo & swim coach at Leland High School for 2 decades. He continued to stay involved in the sport reffing in retirement.
I played for my father at Leland High School, then went on to a successful career at Cal-Berkeley, followed by a professional career in Spain & Brazil and was a member of the US National Team for 7 years.
I’m a former commissioner of Olympic Club water polo, for whom I currently still compete occasionally in Masters tournaments and founded Farallon Aquatics - where I coach.
